Mercury Not-so-retrograde
I'm not pointing fingers at any one source but the problem is endemic.
I wanted to close a credit card account. Simple enough, or so it would seem. Not in real life.
After leaving the trailer park, even before I left, cognizant of the apparent winds of fate, I got rid of all mailing addresses except one, listed on the contact resource.

No Checks

In and of its self, this isn't a remarkable sign. Placement, location, it's by a register in a store. Again, not remarkable in way, shape or form.
However, I took that picture last week, week before? That sign, I'd guess it was temporary job that's been up for six years now. Maybe longer. Good red capture, fixed with the filters and frames from the phone.
The color was the original point of capture, but really the message?
I still accept

Happy Easter
Good Friday led to fishing on Saturday. St. George's day. Shakespeare's birthday. On the water at 8, joined by an extra boatload of buddies at the last minute, caught nothing but tourist trout until noon. Rat Reds and black drum, by the boatload.

Apple's tracking devices
Let me say this about that...
Big hue and cry, all over the net with Apple's iPhone and iPads all serving as personal GPS, big-brother-is-watching, tracking devices.
True story: I was in El Paso, not long ago, and my phone beeped. I was riding in Grace's truck, and my phone, AT&T, told me that, in Mexico, international data roaming rates applied.
I never left Texas. Never.
Interstate 10 bounces within a few hundred meters of the border, and the closest "cell" tower was obviously in

Motley Crüe and Poison!
Hair bands, on tour this summer! It's the last of the 80's -- all over again.

That I bought my first Poison CD -- ever -- not that long ago, perhaps the most disturbing yet.

Said it before, and I'll reiterate the comment, to make sure it sinks in, anyone of my immediate family, from this point forward, has the unmitigated gall to die in Texas, in the summer time, I will not be wearing long pants to the services.

Austin Holistic Event
Almost 20 years in the making.
As listed in the schedule, I was at the inaugural Austin Town Lake Holistic Health and Psychic Fair.
Loved it. Named for the old name for Austin's river-lake, the northern terminus to Shady Acres Trailer Park (no longer there), the lake was home for many, many years. River. Lake. Town Lake, the name was for the hotel, and the location's name stuck even though the lake is now Lake Lady Bird.
Looking over my shoulder, I could see the very trail, I walked

Turn the corner and there's another piano, under a display - along the wall - of more South American santos as well as relics gathered in Mexico. Starting in 1910, much of the Catholic church's hold on the land was released during revolution, and the relics eventually found there way here. There was one intern, summer before the Villa Finale opened, all she did was polish the silver that on top of the upstairs piano.
From the hallway, it's a left

I have a personal belief that Walter Mathis and his home, now a historic trust site, Villa Finale, I tend to rewrite the local history in a way that points to Walter Mathis as the one who - singlehandedly - saved San Antonio's King William district.

Mexican Vanilla
Mexican Vanilla
Several decades ago, I was introduced to the flavor "Mexican Vanilla."
Introduced through Austin's Amy's Ice Cream. In San Antonio's market square, various merchants offer varieties of Mexican Vanilla.

That singular image spoke to me on several levels. The "Clear and Pure" label, and the liqueur itself, sparkling and crystal-like, amber in color, triple-filtered, and yet, there's still that magic in Mexican Vanilla.

A New Yorker magazine article triggered my consciousness about the title and the approach, the end-product. The story was about an art movement in New York and Amsterdam, in the early seventies, 1970's, where the artists were working on conceptual pieces,

The morning dawned muggy and cool, the sun was harsh and bright by 8 or so, and I was rummaging through a cupboard, and I picked up a glass bowl, looking for something behind it. Bowl shattered. Slit my wrist. Better yet, I didn't notice for a few minutes, blood doesn't show up on some of my shirts. Blood was

Starring that favorite son from Uvalde, TX - always an Austin connection - he drawls his way through the role, isn't his first lawyer role, is it?
Saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse... AC was set too cold, food was good, and the movie was good enough that I can't complain about the AC too cold.
Fifth act twist - pretty good. Alarming, even. Should've seen that one coming.
